St Brigids 1-17 St Peters Dunboyne 4-07

St Brigids welcomed St Peters Dunboyne to Ballinacree on Saturday evening in Round 9 of the League. St Brigids found the going tough in the first twenty five minutes as Dunboyne's hard running was causing problems for us and we found ourselves adrift on a scoreline of 3-04 to 0-03 at this stage.

We got lifeline of sorts at this point as Cian Blake was hauled down in the square and Cormac Browne duly dispatched the penalty to the net.

Two quickfire points for us followed but as luck would have it Dunboyne got through for another major to leave us trailing at the break with the score reading 4-04 to 1-05.

The second half started with the visitors putting over a quick point to leave nine points the gap which at this stage looked very unlikely for us to overhaul.

Whatever tweaks were made though by the Brigids management at the break started to show a little encouragement on the field as Brigids applied a press of sorts that had the visitors chasing shadows for a time as we nibbled away taking our point chances so much so that by the fiftieth minute we had the scoreboard reading level for the first time at 4-06 to 1-15.

We took the lead with the next play, a point but back came the visitors with a point of their own. Just as the clock passed the sixty minute mark we came up trumps again with a point and now it was a matter of holding on to see it out.

See it out we did in style as Dunboyne pressed and pressed but our lads defended heroically to a man and eventually the final whistle blew on an outstanding game that had it all.

Our second half performance was one to remember as everyman ran himself into the ground for the cause and with numerous players out with injuries it's great to see the stalwarts AJ Gilsenan, Philip Tuite, Peter Skelly and Peter Moore in the trenches driving everyone along. Round ten is versus St Colmcilles on Tuesday 25th in Piltown.

St Brigids. Peter Skelly; Oisin Smith,  Dylan Scully, Bobby Masterson; Tommy Russell, Ciaran Russell (0-01), Leo McCann; David Gibney (0-01), Hugh Fanning; Shane Gilsenan, Cormac Browne (1-09), Leonard Tuite; Cian Blake (0-06), Mark Gibney, AJ Gilsenan. Subs. Philip Tuite for Dylan Scully, Jamie Maguire for Leonard Tuite.
