June 10, 2024

Wolfe Tones Saran Ó Fionnagáin

Bhulf Tón 2-13 St Peters Dunboyne 1-15 in Páirc Baile Ghib

Bhain an lucht féachana an taitneamh as an gcluiche seo agus bhí na foirne ar chomhscór ag druidim chun an deireadh sula bhfuair  Sarán Ó Fionnagáin cúilín in am cúiteamh ghortaithe chun an bua a fháil d'fhoireann Bhulf Tón. Bhí Naomh Peadar 1-8 in aghaidh 1-5 chun tosaigh ag  leath am. Chruthaigh an dá fhoireann go leor seansanna eile chun cúil a fháil agus roimh leatham bhí an foireann baile faoi bhrú. Le cosaint níos fearr tháinig feabhas mór ag na Tones sa dara leath.

These sides played out a very exciting game in excellent conditions in Pairc Baile Ghib. There were goal chances a plenty for both teams. Fiachra Ward blazed over from close range while Saran O Fionnagáin hit the crossbar. Conor Sheppard had a chance before O Fionnagáin's fine finish found the net following a Moran pass to bring the Tones back into contention when Dunboyne threatened to pull away towards the end of the first half. The visitors had narrowly also failed to convert two goal chances. Half time score Tones 1-5 Dunboyne 1-8.

Dunboyne stretched the lead to 4 points immediately on the resumption. Alan Callaghan, O Fionnagáin and Caolan Ward responded with points before Kyle Moran goaled to put Tones in front. It was nip and tuck to the end with the visitors levelling matters in the dying seconds having won a Tones kickout. However in the last act of the game Tones gained possession from the kickout, substitute Cian Ward found Ó Fionnagáin who capped a fine performance and pointed from distance to the loud cheers of the home support.

This was an improved performance for the Tones and they showed the benefit of their recent run of games in the Comórtas. A more cohesive second half  performance which saw Stephen Sheppard switch to defensive duties created the platform for victory.
