Wolfe Tones mens and ladies squads took part in the Chomórtas Peil na Gaeltachta

Tones Ladies and mens team took part in Comortas Peile na Gaeltachta over the June bank holiday weekend. The Ladies put in a gallant performance but lost to Corca Dhuibhne Ciarraí in the quarter final while the men fell at the semi final stage to Naomh Anna Leitir Moir.

Cluiche leathcheannais Bhulf Tón 2-9 Naomh Anna Leitir Móir 1-15 i gCill na Martra, Co Corcaigh.

Cé go raibh tús maith ag foireann Bhulf Tón le 1-2, dhúisigh Naomh Anna de réir a chéile agus  cé go raibh foireann na Mí fós dha chúilíní chun tosaigh go luath sa dara leath, chríochnaigh fir Connemara go láidir. Bhí Bhulf Tón 2 03 in aghaidh 0 07 chun tosaigh ag leatham.

D’imir foireann na mBan sa chomórtas freisin in aghaidh Corca Dhuibhne ar an Satharn. Níor eirigh leo áfach. Cé go rabhadar ocht gcúilini chun deiridh thaispeain siad an-sprid le teach aniar láidir agus ní raibh ach dhá chuilini idir na foirne ag an deireadh.

Moladh mór do muintir Cill na Martra as ucht as eagrú iontach, an failte agus an cairdeas a thaispeain siad duinn i rith na deireadh seachtaine.

Buiochas mór do ghach duine, Imreoiri, foirne  bainistíochta agus an lucht leanúna a thaisteal go Corcaigh.

Bhulf Tón’s reign as Comortas champions ended with this loss to Naomh Anna from Leitir Moir. Despite Tones holding the initiative until the last quarter once Naomh Anna got their noses in front they were able to keep the Meath men at arm’s length scoring on the break while snuffing out any goal threat at the back. Bhulf Tón opened explosively with a goal from Caolan Ward followed by points from Eoin Donegan and Stephen Sheppard. However Naomh Anna responded well and hit three points with both teams having goal chances in this period. Saran O Fionnagain’s screamer scraped the outside of the post before he registered a point off his left foot to leave three points between the teams. Two further points from the Connemara men left the minimum between the teams before Eoin Donegan hit the net. However Naomh Anna responded with two points to leave the half time score 2 03 to 0 07. Tones hopes were dealt a blow with the loss of Dan O Neill to injury early in the game.

Saran O Fionnagain opened the scoring with a point for the Meath men after the half time break but the concession of a goal left the teams level. Brughach Ó Fionnagain and Sean Condidine opened up a two point gap but Naomh Anna pulled level again and they held the initiative after that and led to the end although Tones mounted a huge effort in search of a goal in the dying minutes.
