FL Div 3: Kilmainham leave Dunsany empty handed

May 26, 2024

Kilmainham's Conor Kilgallen

Dunsany 2-7, Kilmainham 1-6

Kilmainham locked horns with Dunsany on Friday 24th May in Dunsany in what was a dress rehearsal for their opening round championship match in August. Both teams were missing players and as expected the match was a tough encounter. The early shower of rain had left the pitch greasy and made footing difficult at times for both teams. We got off to the worst possible start when we got turned over from a short kick out in the first few minutes and the ball found the back of our net. Things were to get worse a few minutes later as another mistake in our defence was punished by the Dunsany corner forward. A dream start for the home team. Our lads were stunned into action and to their credit they responded well from the poor start with some well worked team moves resulting in a few points. We probably were unlucky not to have another few scores on the board as we approached half time. Dunsany led by 4 points at the half time whistle.

Half Time Score: Dunsany 2-2, Kilmainham 0-4

Our lads new that they were still in this match and they were told to keep the scoreboard ticking over to get back into the match. They couldn’t have dreamed for a better start to the second half with a cracking team goal. We transferred the ball up from the backs to the Dunsany net in 30 seconds. It involved 14 exquisite team passes that resulted in Larry Morgan palming the ball to the Dunsany net in what was the score of the match. A goal Man City would be proud of. Unfortunately for us, Dunsany were able to hit the next two scores to keep ahead. This was the story of the last 20 minutes for us. Missed chances by us were punished at the other end as Dunsany converted the few chances that they had when the broke up field. The game threatened to boil over at times as frustration set in. Declan Mullen received his marching orders after an altercation with Dunsany’s number 6.

A disappointing result from our lads but it was a much-improved performance than the previous match. Plenty of positives and things to work on. It was great to see the return of Conor Kilgallen to the field after a tough few month's out with injury. Our next match will be against Dunderry in Kilmainham on Thursday 6th June at 8pm in Kilmainham.
