FL Div 4: Second half fightback not enough for Carnaross

Charlie Murphy Carnaross

Ballinlough 2-12 Carnaross 1-11

Ballinlough took the bragging rights from this local derby played in Carnaross on Tuesday evening.

The visitors raced into a 9 point lead courtesy of a goal and 6 points. Carnaross were not at the races at all and the Lough marauded through their rear guard at ease. Eventually Carnaross awoke from their slumber aided by their youngest members. Oisín Yore opened proceedings converting a 45 before Charlie Murphy finished off a fine move by blasting the ball into the net. The Lough cut short any sign of a home comeback by adding their second goal straight after. Murphy and Dillon Fox added two more scores but Ballinlough kept the Ross at bay by adding 3 of their own. The half time score read Ballinlough 2-08 to Carnaross' 1-03.

The performance in the second half was the polar opposite of the lacklustre first. The Ross brought a real sense of aggression, urgency and determination to proceedings. They created chance after chance turning the men in red over repeatedly. Unfortunately their scoring efficiency never matched their work rate. A shocking wides total of 20, over the course of the hour, proved costly. Charlie Murphy added the first point of the half continuing his rich scoring form. Points from Dermot McGee, Darragh O’Reilly and Shane Yore narrowed the substantial gap but goals were needed. Paddy McDermott took up the mantle but his goal bound shot was expertly saved by the Ballinlough goalkeeper. The rebound landed to John Reilly but his effort crashed off the post. A second goal chance was well saved by Gibney in goals with another rebound hitting the crossbar. McDermott converted another 3 chances but Ballinlough's defence remained resolute.

Ballinlough deserved their win with Carnaross left to run their mediocre first half showing.
