O'Mahonys 1-09 Wolfe Tones 1-15

Played in glorious sunshine in Gibbstown on Friday evening, Wolfe Tones came out on top in this Div 1 FL encounter. 

Wolfe Tones were off to a quick start, adding two scores in the opening three minutes before Craig Munnelly O’Toole opened the scoring for his side. The home team responded quickly, kicking four points in the next five minutes, split by a pointed free from Robbie Keelaghan. 

O’Toole and Duggie Dillon kicked two points to keep Navan O’Mahony’s in touching distance, before Wolfe Tones were awarded a penalty a minute later. They made no mistake, finding the net and extending the lead to five points.

The sides then exchanged points, with O’Toole adding both for his side. On the cusp of half time, midfielder Conor Finnegan made a good passage through the Wolfe Tones defence to find the net. The home side pointed just as the half time whistle blew, leaving four points between the sides at the interval.

Quick off the mark in the second half, Wolfe Tones extended the lead to seven points scoring three points in as many minutes.

Paddy Dillon scored an impressive point in the seventh minute, with a well placed 45 yard shot from play. Ten minutes passed without score before the home side left seven in it once again with a sixteenth minute free.

In the final fifteen minutes of the game, scores were hard to come by for both sides. Substitute Darragh Maguire and Keelaghan raised white flags for the visitors to a single point for Wolfe Tones, who ran out as 6 point winners.
