Mixed fortunes for Killyon

Killyon's Mikey Mullen

The second rounds of both Division 1 and Division 4 were held over the past few days. Last Thursday saw our juniors take on Rathmolyon. A nail-biting encounter unfolded.

Killyon made a good start. An awarded penalty was well placed by Dylan Duignan. The Meath under 20 star showing his skill to blast the net for the first goal of the game. A mix of points from play and from frees kept Killyon on top throughout the half.

Dylan scored a second goal before half time inspiring the rest of the Killyon players. Halftime score: 2:07 to 7 points to Killyon.

A hard fought battle played out in the second half. By no means were Rathmolyon going to be pushed over easily.

Jake Ryan came off the bench to contribute to the goals, making it Killyons third on the night. Rathmolyon getting two goals themselves in the second half, keeping the pressure on the Killyon players.

Killyon dug deep to see out the game on a scoreline of 3:14 to 2:15.

Our seniors played on Saturday evening at home against Clann Na nGael. Our seniors, missing several players from their first round encounter, were focused on the match ahead of them.

Clann na nGael started better and in the first half scored two goals in quick succession. Our seniors never lost their heads and just kept fighting back with points from play and from frees. A slow start from Killyon meant they were trailing at halftime on a scoreline of 2:11 to 7 points.

A much improved second half performance saw our seniors reduce the deficit to 3 points at one stage. A long high ball into the forwards was caught from the sky by Adam Farrell, handing it off to Paddy McElhinney for a great goal.

The remaining second half points coming from play thanks to Justin Coyne and from frees thanks to Mikie Mullen. Full time score 1:14 to 2:18 to Clann na nGael. The comeback from Killyon just wasn't enough on this occasion. "
