FL Div 3: Defeat for Kilmainham in Bective

April 28, 2024

Kilmainham's Michael Hoey

Bective 2-10, Kilmainham 1-9

Kilmainham made the short trip to Bective to face a Bective side with mixed league form the same as us. It was a perfect evening for football with the pitch in top class condition. A sizeable crowd turned out. Kilmainham/Bective matches are always nip and tuck and this was going to be no different. Kilmainham started well with a point from Dylan Morgan but Bective hit back with a free of their own, that was converted by Mulhall. Kilmainham then took control of the match and started to pin Bective into their own half. We hit the next 4 points with some brilliant play through the hands. Dylan Morgan then fired to the Bective net with a brilliant finish. Kilmainham looked in control and had a well-deserved lead. Then the Bective purple patch came where they reeled off 1-3 in ten minutes to cut the deficit to 1 point going in at half time with all to play for in the second half.

Half Time Score:  Bective 1-4, Kilmainham 1-5.

Kilmainham will have been disappointed to have only gone in a point up at half time. They were excellent for the first 20 minutes. A strong second half was needed to win this game. We missed 3 scoreable point opportunities at the second half to increase our lead. Then Bective did what they did in the first half, hitting us for 1-3 again in quick succession to swing the game in their favour as they took the lead. From there on they didn’t look back and we were playing catch up. They were able to keep the score board ticking over and the introduction of their subs helped them to see out the match as deserved 4-point winners. A frustrating result for us after a very good first 20minutes. Our performance lacked the usual high intensity needed to win a match against an intermediate side. We will dust ourselves down, stick together and go again.

Our next match will be in round 6 of the league where we will face Clann na nGael at home on Saturday 11th May with a 6pm throw in. Thanks to everyone that came to support the team today, hopefully more will come out and get behind the lads in the next few weeks.
