FL Div 5: Goals crucial as 'Wood' win

Before proceedings got underway in Moylagh  a minutes silence was observed for club stalwart the late great Dan Breen. Dan’s commitment and involvement in Kilmainhamwood GFC will forever be remembered. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.

On a calm and cool evening in a crucial Division 5 league game the Wood got off to a quick start with scores from Niall Bennett and Kian Gillespie. Kilmainhamwood worked the ball well up the pitch multiple occasions throughout the half and were well on top of Moylagh who struggled to get a foothold in the game. Killian Russell, Brian Cassidy and Kian Gillespie were particularly composed on the ball round the middle of the field.Moylagh kept themselves in the game with 2 points from play and pointed free. Kilmainhamwood registered a point through Niall Bennett and he got in for a goal to put clear daylight between the teams at the break.

Halftime score Kilmainhamwood 1-4 to Moylagh 0-3.

Kilmainhamwood started the second half quicker with a goal from Kian Gillespie. Kilmainhamwood were started to put their dominance on the ball on the scoreboard. Shane Townley registered another point. Paul Carolan who started in the unfamiliar position of full forward was making good runs inside to cause Moylagh all kinds of problems. A high ball came in which he won and dispatched to the net via a generous deflection from a Moylagh player. Kilmainhamwood were starting to pull away with the gap at 6 points at this stage. Noah Madden got a point on the score sheet. To finish out the game Paul Carolan registered another 1-1 to settle the tie. Management opted to make changes at this point with Niall Conlan, Callum Crosbie, Niall McCabe, Cathal Bennett, OisinReilly and Odhran Keogan all coming off the bench to help the Wood see out the game.
