Rathkenny's Ciaran O'Hare breaks from defence during the Division 7 FL clash at Rathkenny

Visitors Na Fianna produced a spirited fightback to draw this ‘Rays Roofing and Home Renovations’ football league Division 7 game played in Rathkenny last Sunday morning, April 14th.

Rathkenny 3-11 Na Fianna 2-14 

The visitors flew out of the blocks with the opening four points of the game by the sixth minute. Rathkenny then hit their own purple patch when they hit 1-3 without reply. A free from Noah McBride was followed by points from Brian Lenehan and Derick Smith. Sandwiched between the points was a well worked team goal as Brain Lenehan found Daniel Gavagan who injected pace to round his marker, he then found Noah Jenkinson who slotted to the net.  The visitors levelled matters with a brace of points by the 17th minute. Noah Jenkinson edged the hosts back in front with a point from play. In the remaining eleven first half minutes the visitors sent over five points from play. The hosts ended the half with points from Daniel Gavagan and Adam Brennan before Noah McBride found the net following a passing move involving Patrick Knowles, Daniel Gavagan and Noah Jenkinson. That goal was the final score of the half as it ended Rathkenny 2-6 Na Fianna 0-11.

With the aid of the strong breeze, the hosts added 1-4 to their account while the visitors had a solitary point in the third quarter. Noah McBride popping over two frees before substitute Oisin Cummins Fuller blasted to the net on 44 minutes, quickly followed by two scores from Jack Gore. Rathkenny were seven points to the good at this stage. Na Fianna reduced the gap with scores on 50 and 51 minutes. Patrick Knowles sent over what was to be the hosts final score on 56 minutes. With 58 minutes on the clock Na Fianna in search of a goal were awarded a penalty for a foul. When it was despatched to the net there was 3 points between the sides. Rathkenny pushed forward but had an effort saved before Na Fianna quickly moved back up the pitch. A shot came off the crossbar and finally they found the net to level matters as the clock entered the final minute. Both sides were guilty of a wide before Peter O’Halloran blew the final whistle.
