St. Vincents Paddy McGill

St. Vincent’s 0-13 Ballivor 0-09

St. Vincent’s welcomed Ballivor for this Division 3 Round 4 clash of the league.

The home side started the brightest with an attack from the throw in that went just wide. This was followed up with Michael McIvor winning a turnover ball and bursting forward before feeding the ball to Dylan Kavanagh. A fine save from the Ballivor keeper resulted in a 45. This was quickly taken and resulted in a free closer in that Patrick McGill duly slotted over for the opening score of the game. Michael McIvor kicked a great point from a free on the 45-meter line to extend the advantage. He added to his tally with another point from out on the wing. Ballivor got their first score of the game in the 10th minute from a free. They cut the Ardcath lead to 1 with another point from play. Sustained pressure by St. Vincent’s would see this being the Ballivor men’s last score of the half. Michael McIvor added another long-range point from play before Patrick McGill pointed from a free. McIvor added to his tally with a point from play and two from frees near the 45-meter line.

Half Time – St. Vincent’s 0-09 Ballivor 0-02

Ballivor started the second half the strongest as they pushed to close the gap in the scoreline. They registered three unanswered points from play, including a fine score from distance. Having weathered the purple patch by their opposition, St. Vincent’s got on the scoreboard as McGill pointed another free. Ballivor responded with a well take point from play. The home side responded with a point from play by Dylan Kavanagh following an interception by Stefan O’Neill. A pointed free from Ballivor brought the deficit back to 4 points. Nigel hand scored a point from a free off the ground. A great run through by Patrick McGill after intercepting a Ballivor pass, saw him find Gary McGlew in front of the posts and McGlew stroked it over the bar. Ballivor got the last score of the game with a pointed free.

This was a hard-fought game with both sides pushing hard for the win, but the men in maroon were good value for the 2 points. They weathered the pressure and controlled the game well to close out the victory. Next up is the short trip to Ashbourne to take on Donaghmore/Ashbourne on 25th April.
