April 15, 2024

Bective's Marty Mulhall

Bective 2-8, Dunderry 0-5

Bective provided the venue for this Div 3 league match versus Dunderry on a fine and windy Saturday evening.

The pitch condition was generally good but with a few soft spots. Both teams were missing many regulars and the early exchanges were evenly balanced. Bective opened the scoring with a point from play and Dunderry equalised with a pointed free kick and again from a pointed free kick on 10 minutes. Bective were up for this match and with plenty of support play released Mark O’Brien to fire over a fine point. Solid defending, with Simon Heneghan, Finn Murray and Jamie O’Neill working very hard, kept Dunderry’s chances to a minimum and Con Smith pointed on 16 minutes. Dunderry pointed a further free kick and Marty Mulhall replied with a pointed free on 18 minutes. Bective were creating chances with their fast ball movement and Smith fired to the back of the net on 24 minutes. Mulhall pointed again and Mark O’Brien carried the ball into the large square and was brought down for a penalty. Mulhall cooly slotted home and Bective went in at half time with 2 – 4 to Dunderry’s 3 points.

Bective started again strongly and Mulhall pointed on 4 minutes against the stiff breeze. Both sides were defending well and it wasn’t until the 15th minute before Dunderry pointed from a free kick. Chris McGurn Pat O’Sullivan and Eanna Reilly came into the game. Bective’s goalie Scott O’Sullivan was marshalling his defence well and experienced players like Kevin Brennan, Paul Lyness, Jack Grant, Mathew Cully, Tristan O’Neill, Luke Heneghan and Ciaran Reilly, were determined not to let this youthful Dunderry team back into the game and held Dunderry to a pointed free kick on 24 minutes. Mulhall had the final say with a pointed free kick on 32 minutes to conclude the scoring.
