FL Div 3: Morgan on fire for Kilmainham

April 14, 2024

Kilmainaham's Dylan Morgan

Kilmainham 0-16, Blackhall Gaels 1-8

After a disappointing result in round 3 of the league the last time out, Kilmainham were determined to bounce back with a win on home soil. Kilmainham were able to welcome back a few players from injury but knew that they would have to be at their best to get the better of intermediate side Blackhall Gaels. Blackhall had drawn 2 out of their first 3 league matches while we had won 1 from 3 games. Kilmainham started the match very well and looked up for this. They were playing with the aid of a strong wind in the first half. Some brilliant transitional play cut through the Blackhall Gaels defence with Dylan Morgan and Freddie Newman popping up with a few nice points. Kilmainham were probably playing the better football of the two sides, but they got hit by a sucker punch of a goal in the 22nd minute. A few minutes of poor mistakes in the defence were ruthlessly punished by the intermediate side as they lead at the half time whistle by a point. Kilmainham left the field wondering how they were behind having played so well.

Half Time Score: Kilmainham 0-8, Blackhall 1-6.

Kilmainham were determined entering the field after half time that they would not be letting this one slip. We were playing against the wind, but a brilliant team display of hard work and determination got us the win as we restricted the visitors to only two points in the second half. We were very calm and controlled in possession, taking some brilliant team scores and drawing fouls in the opposition box as they struggled to stop our direct running. Dylan Morgan was on fire, punishing Blackhall every time he got his opportunity. An outrageous free from Morgan out of his hands against the wind was the final score of the match. A young Mickey Newman would have been very proud of that effort. 12 points for Morgan on an excellent individual performance. Referee Paul Mooney blew the full-time whistle as Kilmainham ran out deserved 5-point winners. A strong performance from the lads with plenty to work on going forward. A big well done to all the panel and management team on a great win.

Our next match will be in round 5 of the league where we will face Bective away on Saturday 27th April with a 6pm throw in. Thanks to everyone that came to support the team today, hopefully more will come out and get behind the lads in the next few weeks.
