FL Div 1: Dunboyne overcome adversity to shade local derby

Dunboyne's Seamus Lavin

Dunboyne...3-09 Ratoath...1-10

Home side Dunboyne were forced to alter their intended starting 15 twice before the throw in as first originally listed midfielder Fergal Waters pulled up in the warmup only to be followed to the treatment room by his intended replacement Luke Carolan. However, for a player that's abundantly more used to lining out at wing back or wing forward, Lorcan Conway stepped up to the plate with considerable aplomb.

Thanks to Cathal Melia finding the net for the second game in a row, the eventual victors carved out a lead of 1-03 to 0-01 for themselves early on, but a team of Ratoath's calibre were always going to find their range and it was actually they who led the way on the run in to half time, by 1-06 to 1-05, until Donal Lenihan also made it two goals in two games, meaning that the locals turned around with a two point advantage.

Dunboyne again constructed a five point buffer for themselves, but, this time, three points - 2-09 to 1-09 - was as close as the blue and gold could get as a Stuart Lowndes 'major' put the seal on a deserved win for the hosts. This Dunboyne team has a fresh look to it, with Liam Byrne adapting to his new role between the posts, Seamus Lavin settling back in after so long away, his brother Paraic gaining in experience and others in turn following suit.
