A little piece of history was made when DCU Dóchas Éireann retained the All Ireland Freshers Division 1 Football title with a 4-8 to 0-8 victory over University of Galway in DCU last night.

Uniquely, there was a set of triplets on the winning panel. Ratoath’s Tomas Corbett, Sean Corbett, Liam Corbett were part of the squad made up from sixteen different counties.

Liam lined out at corner back while Tomas and Sean had to be content with a place on the subs bench.

The trio lined out for Ratoath in last years Meath SHC final against Kildalkey and were outstanding when Ratoath claimed their one asnd only county MHC Division 1 title in 2021.

Shaun Ward, Ryan Sinkey and Liam Flynn combined for 3-6 as the Dublin students completed the first leg of a potential hurling / football double (they face UL in the hurling final next week).

The talented triplets were joined by fellow countymen Jack Kinlough (Dunboyne), Eoin Drysdale (Ratoath), Tom Bowden (Duleek Bellewstown) and Tadhg Martin (Slane) on the winning squad. Dylan Briody St. Brigids Ballinacree was a half back on the Galway team. The final was refereed by Dunshaughlin's Andrew Smith.
