Schools: Rathbeggan's long wait is over

Rathbeggan ended a 19 year wait for another Allianz Meath Cumann na mBunscol Girls football title with this Division 2 final win over Skryne in the first game of the day at Pairc Tailteann. PHOTOS

It took twelve minutes for the games first score to arrive, the impressive Alessandra Stanley finding the back of the Skryne net. Sarah Hayden and Stanley (2) added points as the winners went to their half time huddle 1-3 to 0-0 in front.

Skryne got themselves back into the game with four early second half points from Katie May Nolan, Sophie Gibbons (2) and Laura Toomey to leave just a goal in it after ten minutes. But from there on Rathbeggan resumed control and a Hayden goal with five minutes remaining ensured their first title since 2004.

After the game Mary Devine presented the Girls Division 2 Cup to Rathbeggan joint captains Ciara Coulter and Sarah Hayden.
