Leinster Club IHC: Winning start for Kildalkey

Kildalkey senior hurlers made a winning start in the Leinster IHC on Saturday in Pairc Tailteann against Clodiagh Gaels from Offaly.

The blues made a great start and early points from the 3 Paddy’s Coneely with 2 Potterton with 2 and Barnwell to go into an early lead.

David Harmon with a long range point from play and Nicky Potterton also hit points but they didn’t score again until near halftime from a Nicky Potterton free as the Offaly men nipped away at their lead to only trail by 3 points at the break 0-8 to 0-5.

Clodiagh Gaels got the first point of the second half and cut the lead to 2 until Nicky Potterton got the blues going again from a free further points from Coneely and Nicky and Paddy Potterton pushed them further ahead as Kildalkey played their best hurling in this period 3 in a row from Coneely all mighty efforts and a Martin Healy point who was playing a stormer from distance got them up to 17 points .

Clodiagh Gaels got in for 2 late goals 1 from a penalty and another from play both scored by their corner forward Dwayne Dunne but the village men finished with a flourish as Nicky Potterton scored a penalty and 2 more points from the excellent Paddy Coneely and another for Paddy Potterton brought their tally to 1-20 and substitute Brian Coneely had the last say as he gained possession from a Brian Coffey pass to take on his man solo 30 yards and bury a bullet to the right corner of the Clodiagh Gaels net to seal the win as the final score read Kildalkey 2-20 Clodiagh Gaels 2-8.

The defence were brilliant throughout and never gave their men much leeway as they fought for every ball. Midfielder Paddy Potterton hit 4 points and Coneely led the way up front hitting 8 glorious points but everyone played their part in a great team display the clubs first win in Leinster after some brave efforts and near misses over the years 

The Village roll on to the next game against favourites Thomastown of Kilkenny which will be a huge ask but every man in blue will be giving it their all that you can be sure of and represent their club and their county with pride.
