Carnaross NS 5-3 Moynalty NS 4-4

Neighbours Carnaross and Moynalty served up the best game of the day in the Allianz Meath Cumann na mBunscol Girls Division 4 final at Pairc Tailteann. PHOTOS

Carnaross got a great start with an Elysha Doyle Daly goal but Moynalty hit back with two goals from Lilly Carville and Ella Gilsenan. Riona Murphy kept the eventual winners in touch with a brace of points but Moynalty took a 3-2 to 1-2 half time lead with 1-1 from the very impressive Anna Kavanagh.

The lead was reduced to a goal in the early stages of the second half when Anna Woods found the back of the Moynalty net. With Anna and Katie Woods dominating the midfield exchanges Carnaross took over and between the 5th and 20th minute it was the Riona Murphy show. The number 11 registered 2-2 as Carnaross opened up a 5-3 to 3-2 lead. But Moynalty were far from finished. Midfielder Anna Kavanagh scored 1-2 to leave two points between the teams but the goal they needed never arrived thanks to some very brave Carnaross defending and the girls in Maroon and Gold were crowned champions for the very first time.
