Syddan's Cormac Rowe

Syddan 1-8 Dunsany 1-7

Cormac Rowe was the match winner nearly two minutes into injury time with a goal that gave Syddan the victory in a tight and tense affair on Saturday evening in Seneschalstown in the first round of the Junior Championship.

With only seconds left quick thinking by Mark Fedigan with a quick free towards Cormac Rafferty. Rafferty fielded brilliantly and kept his cool to find Rowe who fired a low shot into the net. Seconds later the referee Joseph Curran blew the final whistle within Syddan ahead by the minimum.

Dunsany started the game better but it was defences who were on top throughout the first half. Declan Smyth scored a goal for Dunsany after 10 minutes. Syddan were struggling in attack and got their first score on 24 minutes through a fine point by Cormac Rowe after a great ball in by Eoin Lynch-Duff.  At half time the score read 1-2 to 0-2 in favour of Dunsany.

The second half was a bit more open but scores were still very hard earned. Daire Rowe, Kevin Traynor and Mark Fedigan all got on the score sheet as Syddan levelled the game with 5 minutes remaining. Syddan were defending well with Ryan Summersby leading the line brilliantly at centre back. Dunsany lost Eoghan Harkin to a second yellow with a few minutes remaining but they registered the next two scores to put them up by two points deep into injury before Rowe struck the crucial goal to give Syddan a hard earned win.
