Kildalkey 1-18 Killyon 0-12
Kildalkey and Kilyon met for this Round 2 SHC game on Friday night at a damp and showery Longwood.
Kildalkey were coming into this game after a narrow win against Na Fianna in Round 1 while Kilyon had a narrow loss to Ratoath and both teams came with optimism of winning.
Kildalkey started well and worked very hard and put pressure on any Kilyon man in possession causing turnovers and winning frees Nicky Potterton got the village up and running quickly followed by a Paddy Coneely free as both were giving Kilyon plenty of headaches as they were finding them hot to handle.
David Raleigh got Kilyons First point after cutting in from the right but Kildalkey took over in a dominant spell for them through
Martin Healy Evan Fitzgerald and 3 from play from Coneely all super efforts as they attacked time and again to lead 0-7 to 0-1
Kilyon scored 4 more points 3 frees from Mikey Mullan and 1 from play to bring their tally to 0-5 at the break while Coneely from a free and from play and 2 more from Nicky Potterton brought Kildalkey’s tally to 0-11 with 9 of them coming from play in a hard working dominant first half which saw David Coneely Brian Coffey Brian O Halloran and Brendan Mckeon playing brilliantly in defence
Kilyon did claw back a few frees after halftime to close the gap but a long ball in from Brin Kelly went all the way to the net for a fortunate goal but points from Potterton Coneely Evan Fitzgerald pushed on the blues again
Brian O'Halloran was immense in that second half and playing the sweeper role he seemed to be always in the right place at the right time with his reading and distribution a huge feature of the game both teams went point for point in the last quarter but Kildalkey’s all coming from play through O'Halloran with a boomer Potterton Coneely and Fitzgerald with the last one the men in blue ran out 1-18 to 0-12 winners on the night to leave them with 2 wins from 2 as Ratoath await them in round 3 in 2 weeks time
