Camogie: Meath win big on the road

June 10, 2023

Kerry's Anne Marie Leen and Sophia Payne of Meath

Meath 3-15 Kerry 0-11

After suffering two narrow defeats to Kerry this year already Meath made no mistake this time out and claimed both points in round 2 of the All Ireland Intermediate Camogie Championship at Causeway.

Kerry were on the scoreboard first through Jackie Horgan. Points from Emma O’Connell and Amy Gaffney had the game all square after four minutes but four without reply from Patrice Duggan (3) and Horgan had the home side 0-6 to 0-2 up midway through the opening half. The visitor dominated the remainder of the half and scores from Grace Coleman (2), Olivia O’Halloran (2) left the minimum between the teams at the break Kerry 0-8 Meath 0-7.

Meath’s domination continued in to the second half. Aoibhin Lally levelled matters two minutes in and Coleman gave the Royals the lead before dual star Aoife Minogue raised a green flag from a penalty.

Meath were 1-11 to 0-10 in front when Minogue had the ball in the Kerry net again to open up a seven point lead. Coleman and Gaffney extended that lead and Brendan Skehan’s charges were in total control. Substitute Nadine Doyle put the icing on the cake in the 31st minute with Meath third goal.

Next up for the Royals is a short trip to neighbours Westmeath in two weeks time.

Meath scorers: Aoife Minogue 2-1, Grace Coleman 0-6, Nadine Doyle 1-0, Emma Connell, Olivia O’Halloran and Amy Gaffney 0-2 each, Aoibhin Lally and Ciara Foley 0-1 each

Kerry scorers: Patrice Duggan 0-9, Jackie Horgan 0-2
