FL Div 2A: Kilmainham left to rue missed chances

May 10, 2023

Kilmainham's Freddie Newman

Kilmainham 1-12, Nobber 1-15.

Our third A league match in seven days saw us welcome Nobber to Kilmainham on Tuesday 9th May 2023.

It was a lovely evening for football. With the volume of games in quick succession it was unlikely that both teams would be at full strength. Both squads would be tested, and it was good to see some familiar faces return for their clubs to help them out.

The first half started with Nobber dominating the earlier exchanges gaining primary possession around the middle and looking to move quick ball into their forwards. Kilmainham turned their hosts over on a number of occasions in the opening 15 minutes. Kilmainham took a while to adjust into the game with a number of positionally positions from Friday’s match against St. Pat’s. Two well taken goals from Nobber’s Thomas Murtagh and Kilmainham’s Declan Mullen were the highlight of a cagey first half and tight first half. Half time score: Kilmainham 1-6, Nobber 1-9.

The team talk from Kilmainham’s management team at half time was more of the same. The lads battled for every ball with the visitors. There was some brilliant tussles all over the field. Plenty of mistakes from both teams and some nice team scores was the pattern of the second half. At times it looked like Nobber night pull away from the home team, but Kilmainham kept piling on the pressure and fought for the goal that would have tied the game. Unfortunately, it never came. Two late goal chances came to nothing as Nobber left Kilmainham with the two league points. Nobber remain in contention at the top end of the league while Kilmainham need to regroup and get players back to ensure league survival.

Best for Kilmainham on the night were, Freddie Newman, Jamie O’ Sullivan, Mickey Newman and Paddy Hennigan.
