FL Div 1A: Youthful Dunboyne come up just short

March 27, 2023

Dunboyne's David Gallagher

Dunboyne 1-08 Gaeil Colmcille 0-12

For the second time in a few weeks, the black and ambers came up just short against the Kells side, with whom they have developed quite a rivalry in recent seasons. In mitigation on this occasion, it could be pointed out that between emigration, injuries and players involved with county teams, Ger Robinson’s charges were without 16 of what would normally be their matchday 26.

That, however, isn't being offered as an excuse because the simple fact is that Eoin Carroll's visiting team made their early superiority count and built up a lead the hosts were unable to peg back.

That said, there were plenty of positives for this young and developing team to take from the encounter. Not least the manner in which youngsters like Luke Carolan, Darragh Nolan and, in particular, Ross Reynolds stood up to the plate when need and opportunity presented itself.

Mind you, our younger players were visibly lifted when the evergreen David Gallagher - who turned 43 a fortnight ago - came on halfway through the second half.

When he entered the fray, the home side were five in arrears, but though the also returning David McEntee tagged on a quick 1-1, Dunboyne were unable to find a leveller.

Dunboyne scorers: R. Reynolds (0-5), D. McEntee (1-1), D. Mahon, L. Carolan (0-1 each).

Dunboyne: C. Flynn; M. Furlong, L. Byrne, S. Ryan; J. Hayes, R. Finn, L. Conway; N. Jones, D. Mahon; L. Kelly, M. Murphy, D. Mahon; D. Nolan, R. Reynolds, L. Carolan. Subs - D. McEntee for Hayes, C. Melia for Nolan, E. Martin for Kelly, D. Gallagher for Mahon, O. Boylan for Furlong.
