St. Michaels Matthew Halpin surveys his options during the Meath IFC game against Oldcastle at Kells

St. Michaels 0-13, Oldcastle 3-08

St. Michaels and Oldcastle faced off on Sunday afternoon in this make or break Meade Farm Group IFC match in Pairc Colmcille in Kells.

Straight away St. Michaels showed plenty of hunger as they fiercely contested every ball and went 0-3 up after only three minutes played with points from brothers David and Ciaran Lynch and Oran Meehan however a minute later Oldcastle broke through the St. Michaels defence and drove a shot to the back of the net to draw level. They followed up with a converted free before Shane McDonnell levelled matters again from a '45.
Oldcastle went ahead with another minor a minute later and they held control from there to the short whistle. Ciaran Lynch popped over a further two minors but it was Oldcastle calling all the shots as they posted a further 1-2 to lead by 2-4 to 0-6 at the break.

Oran Meehan got the second half off to a good start with two points in the opening five minutes Oldcastle replied with a single point but their scores dried up for the next fifteen minutes which gave St. Michaels a chance to re-group and with Matthew Halpin and the 38 year old JB O'Reilly doing trojan work around the middle third of the park it looked like the momentum was swinging in favour of St. Michaels when  points flowed from Ciaran and David Lynch, McDonnell and Meehan to leave their side one point to the good on 46 minutes, 0-12 to 2-5, however Oldcastle's next move was soul destroying for the St. Michaels lads and supporters as they rattled the net for the third time to regain the lead. They added a further two minors before Meehan added his sides final score in the second minute of injury time and there was still time for Oldcastle to consolidate their lead in the 65th minute.
