Ballivor 3-14 - 1-09 Clann na nGael
Clann na nGael suffered their second loss in two championship games against a strong Ballivor outfit this evening at Boardsmill.
Clann couldn’t have started the game any better with Diarmaid O’Donnchadha scoring a goal inside the first 60 seconds, however the lead didn’t last long as Ballivor replied instantly with a goal of their own.
The game ebbed and flowed for the following few minutes as both teams attempted to settle down after the frantic start. It was Ballivor who found their feet as Clann failed to find some balance. Ballivor kicked 3 consecutive points and in the 19th minute scored a sucker punch of a goal. By the 25th minute they were 2-05 to 1-00 ahead. Clann started to come back into the game with the ever exceptional Thomas Doyle scoring two lovely points. However, the Athboy / Rathcairn outfit still found themselves 7 points behind when the half time whistle blew.
The sides traded scores at the start of the second half before Ballivor took complete control of the game. The maroon side kicked 4 points in the space of 5 minutes before killing the game off with a well taken goal. Clann never gave up with Darragh Griffin, Matthew Smith and Thomas Doyle all tagging on points in the final ten minutes, but unfortunately it was too little too late.
Clann na nGael Scorers: Diarmaid O’Donnchadha 1-00, Thomas Doyle 0-05, Darragh Griffin 0-02, Matthew Smith 0-01, Josh Mc Grath 0-01
