Duleek Bellewstown 2-23 Clan na nGael 1-10
It was all over bar the shouting as soon as the 17th minute, as a brilliant start saw Duleek Bellewstown power past Clan na nGael in Seneschalstown, on Thursday evening, in the first round of the Meade Group intermediate championship.
Johnny McDonnell opened the scoring with a point from the first attack, followed by 4 unanswered points from John Flood (2 frees), before the Athboy men would raise the white flag in the 7th minute.
Duleek Bellewstown were relentless, never allowing Clan na nGael time on the ball and they kicked 3 more points without reply, Jamie Crosby, Ciaran Flynn and McDonnell again, before Clan na nGael replied with 2 good points from play.
Tom Bowden ended the game as a contest realistically in the 17th minute, with a superb solo goal. He collected the ball ooiside th ‘D’, headed straight for goal before brilliantly sidestepping the keeper to put the ball into the net.
Flynn, Oisin Miland, Flood(free) and Jamie Crosby(free) added points, before Clan na nGael responded with 1-1, a good goal worked in from the end line, before finishing to the net to give them a lift just before half time.
Ciaran Flynn rounded off the scoring with a point to leave it 1-13 to 1-04 at the break.
Flynn added another within 10 seconds of the restart, as Duleek Bellewstown picked up where they left off. It was one way traffic, Clan na nGael kicking 2 points before Flood, Flynn, Cian Ryan, Bowden, Jamie Flaherty(mark) and 2 from McDonnell as Duleek Bellewstown pulled away with considerable ease.
Mark Collins, James McWeeney and a well worked goal from Robin Clarke rounded off the scoring just before referee Padraig Coyle blew the final whistle to leave the final score: Duleek Bellewstown 2-23 Clan na nGael 1-10
