Rathkenny 2-14 Ballivor 1-7

Last year's semi finalists Rathkenny posted the first warning shot in this year's Intermediate Football Championship with this demolition of Ballivor in perfect conditions at Dunderry.

Paul McManus' charges were very impressive in the opening twenty minutes and totally dominated.

With Caolach Halligan and Keith Curtis in inspired form Rathkenny reeled of nine unanswered points.

County panelist Curtis accounted for six of that opening salvo while Halligan raised two white flags.

Ballivor finally woke from their slumber to work themselves back in to the game with points from Adam Gannon (2), Kevin McKeon, David Conneely and Paddy Conneely to leave the half time score 0-10 to 0-5.

The eventual winners dominated again for the first 15 minutes of the second half and were rewarded with points from Halligan, Robbie Garry, David Curtis and Keith Curtis.

Adam Gannon replied with two fine efforts for Ballivor before the game was finally put to bed with two quick fire goals from substitute Will Gore and Halligan.

Ballivor put some respectability on the scoreboard in the final play of the game when David Conneely converted a penalty.

Both teams finished with 14 men when referee Andrew Smith dismissed Brian Meade and Kevin McKeon.

Rathkenny scorers: Keith Curtis 0-7, Caolach Halligan 1-3, Will Gore 1-0, Robbie Garry, James Mackin, Eoghan Heavy and David Curtis 0-1 each

Ballivor scorers: David Conneely 1-1, Adam Gannon 0-4, Kevin McKeon and Paddy Conneely 0-1 each

Referee: Andrew Smith
