Castletown's Mark Kelly

Castletown 2-14 Ratoath 1-9

Castletown made the trip to Ratoath on Thursday evening for the last round of the league and took home all 2 points ensuring we have secured promotion to Division 2B next year along with a spot in the league final.

Ratoath were first off the mark and opened the scoring of the game with a goal with just 3 minutes gone on the clock. Castletown however answered perfectly with a goal of their own only a minute later from wing back Killian Price. The sides traded scores again before Castletowns corner forward Mark Kelly buried the ball in the back of the Ratoath net again with only 8 minutes gone on the clock.

The 2nd quarter of the game was a close contest with both teams adding to their scores, Castletown taking full advantage of the wind and scoring a further 5 points before the break (Rian McConnel 0-3 (1f), Mark Kelly 0-1, Kevin Ross 0-1) . Ratoath keeping writhing touching distance and scoring 3 more points of their own (1f).

Half time score : Castletown 2-6 Ratoath 1-4

Ratoath opened the scoring for the second half with the first 2 scores coming from frees with only 4 minutes gone of the restart narrowing the gap to only a goal. Castletown composed themselves and were patient with getting their scores , by doing so got the next 5 unanswered points - scores coming from Gerry Farrelly, Mark Kelly, Rian McConnell and Kevin Ross.

The final quarter saw Ratoath keeping their scores ticking over with a further 3 points (all frees), but it was Castletown who finished strongest with a further 3 points of their own with Kevin Ross , Gerry Farrelly and Darren Finney chipping in. Castletown were not only  excellent in being patient and working their scores, but also in their defence and applying pressure on Ratoath when they had possession - evident from Ratoath not scoring from play the entire second half.

An excellent performance by Castletown throughout the game in both defending and attacking means a promotion to Division 2B has been secured for next year and a place in the league final.
