Drumconrath won 6-5 on penalties after extra time

Despite being in arrears for most of the second-half of normal time, spirited Drumconrath hung in and roared on by their vocal supporters forced extra time.

Though they led twice in the additional 20 minutes, Raymond Clarke and Brian Roe's men had to settle for penalties with the scores tied at 0-12 to 1-9.

In second-half stoppage time, sub Drums' Patrick Farrelly dragged his goal attempt at the old swimming pool end right and wide.

Dunderry were first to go in the shoot-out, which took place at the town goal. After the first five shots, the teams were tied 3-3. Kenny Fay, Jack Darcy and Jamie Leavy goaled for Trevor Conaty's charges. Sean McMahon, Jamie Myles and Declan Lafferty netted for Drumconrath.

Sudden death brought further Dunderry goals from Seamus Harte and Isaac McKeever. These were countered by successful efforts from Sean McMahon and Matthew Durnin. Dunderry's Jack Darcy had the misfortune to send his effort wide before Myles netted what proved to be the winning penalty.

Jamie Leavy's 37th minute goal appeared to give Dunderry the edge in a low scoring contest where mistakes were many on both sides.

Dunderry - who lost two players to black cards during the hour - might feel they could managed the latter stages of regulation time better.

Leavy was temporarily dismissed in the 26th minute with the teams level at 0-3-each. Defender Aaron Feeney followed in similar fashion in the 57th minute with Dunderry leading by 1-7 to 0-8. Two Steven Crosby frees left it 0-10 to 1-7 after the hour.

Drumconrath captain Crosby posted all bar one of his team's scores in playing time and couple his scoring haul with great work rate.

The sides were level three times in opening half before a Crosby free earned Drumconrath a 0-4 to 0-3 interval advantage. Leavy's goal seemed to tilt the balance Dunderry's way before the spirited Reds rallied to claim the Liam Creavin Cup.

Had the final started a half-hour earlier it would have allowed for better light during the penalty shoot-out.
