Premier Div 3: Drums retain top spot

October 25, 2021

Drumconrath's Matthew Durnin

Drumconrath 1-7 Dunderry 0-7

In a tight close pulsating game unbeaten Drumconrath held onto top spot in the Group with this narrow win over 2nd place Dunderry. Both teams had secured Semi Final places weeks back and this game was in essence to decide finishing placings.

In the end a Matthew Durnin goal in the 1st minute was the deciding score as playing into the stiff breeze Drumconrath made a quickfire start. Dunderry pointed on the next attack and it looked like we would have a free scoring game, but the breezy conditions and excellent defending from both sides got the better of both sets of players and we had no further score until the 21st minute when Steven Crosby pointed.

Two Dunderry points narrowed the gap to the minimum as Crosby pointed a free in injury time to give the visitors a 1-2 to 0-3 half time lead.

Dunderry pointed twice early in the 2nd half but points from Tomas Conlon and Jamie Myles kept the Reds two points clear at the 2nd water break.

Crosby landed a free as the wides tally mounted but this was cancelled out with 54 minutes gone and the game was still in the melting pot.

A neat point from substitute Shaun Murray push Drums that goal clear as Dunderry piled forward looking for that elusive major. They did manage a point but a late Crosby free seen Drumconrath secure the win.

Twelve wides in total will worry the Drumconrath management as they prepare for a Semi Final next weekend.
