Killyon 2-21 Clann na nGael 0-18

After an opening round draw with Kilmessan and a round 2 loss to Dunboyne, Killyon got their first win of this years senior hurling championship with nine points to spare over Clann na nGael at Fr Plunkett Memorial Park Kildalkey.

The sides were level at the first water break 1-3 to 0-6, Adam Gannon getting the goal after seven minutes. Colm O’Sullivan hit four points for the Athboy side.

It was still level at half time 1-9 to 0-12. O’Sullivan and Eamon O'Donnchadha were causing serious problems in the Killyon rearguard and between them accounted for 10 of Clann na nGaels opening half tally. Paddy Coyne, Keith Keogan (2), Adam Gannon (2) and David Raleigh got on the score sheet for Declan Mullens charges after the water break.

By the 45th minute the eventual winners had opened up a 2-14 to 0-15 lead, the impressive Justin Coyne breaking through for their second goal.

A brace of points from Eamon O'Donnchadha narrowed the gap just after the second water break but that’s as good as it got as Killyon piled on the pressure and finished with a string of points from Justin Coyne (3), Stefan Kelly, David Raleigh (2) and substitute Jamie Smyth (2) to earn their first win.

Killyon scorers: Justin Coyne 1-5, David Raleigh 0-5, Adam Gannon 1-2, Keith Keogan 0-4, Jamie Smyth 0-2, Stefan Kelly, Niall Smullen, Paddy Coyne and Calvin Ryan 0-1 each.
