Ballinabrackey 1-13 Curraha 2-4
Ballinabrackey got their first win in Senior Championship with a hard earned victory over Curraha.
This match was a tale of two halves with Curraha starting with a strong performance. Ballinabrackey got the first score on the board with a free from Seamus Curry but Curraha were quick to respond as they rattled the back of the net with a Niall Murphy goal. James McEntee was quick to follow with a well taken 45 to keep the Ha ticking over. Things didn’t look to good for the Bracks when another goal from the Ha pushed them on again to go six points ahead. McEntee stood up again to take another 45 and the Bracks were left with a big hill to climb. The Bracks found there feet in the final 10 minutes with frees from Danny Quinn and Seamus Curry to leave the half time score 2:01 to 0:04.
The second half started well for the Bracks with frees from Damien Carroll and Curry to get them back in the game. Quinn and Curry pushed them on again adding further points to the Bracks tally. McEntee got his 3rd 45 to get Curraha their first score of the second half. Curraha got another point from play and this was to be their last time in charge as the Bracks powered on for the remainder of the second half.
A brilliant effort from Mark Coffey to David Carroll set Chris O’Connor up lovely for a rocket of a goal to leave the Bracks 3 points ahead going in to the final quarter. The final quarter brought more good things for the Bracks as we kicked on with points from Damien Carroll, Derek Flynn, David Carroll and O’Connor. A great second half team performance for Ballinabrackey and a special mention to Mark Coffey and Adam O’ Brien who made a great difference to this game.
Overall, Ballinabrackey left Summerhill with great pride in the jersey as they secured their first win in Meath Senior Football and made history for the club.
