Boardsmill 2-22 Clonard 0-4

The 'Mill lads took to the green green grass of home on Wednesday evening (9th June 2021) for the first time since lockdown last October. The men in blue have been putting in the hard graft like all other clubs, in a short space of time to get match ready and it paid dividends in the opening round of the Tailteann Cup - Group B.

Clonard opened the scoring with a point from play, however the Boardsmill lads were quick to get to scoring action with a free converted by Niall Durkan. Thus laid the foundation for a strong opening first half with 15 points converted from 7 different players, including a fine aerial display from Cathal Wall, and great accuracy from Niall Durkan in slotting over the frees. The first half concluded Boardsmill 0-15, Clonard 0-02.

Luckily, the earlier downpour of rain that occurred didn't dampen Boardsmill's spirits and they continued in the same vein for the second half. Cathal Wall, who had been putting in trojan work throughout the game, claimed yet another high ball and buried it to the back of the net to score the first of the 'Mill men's goals. The Boardsmill new management of Pat Winders and Eddie Holton, took this opportunity to empty their bench and gave as many as possible a game. Not to be outdone by Wall, Rory Gordon also delivered a superb goal to give the Boardsmill men a brace going into the final quarter. Evan Dixon, Stevie Gibbons and Niall Durkan finished off the scoring for the evening.

Despite the home side missing a few players, they put on a good performance for the first of the season, as always areas to improve on, but all in all a good performance by the 'Mill.
