The late Colm Cromwell who was Co. Board Chairman when Meath defeated Dublin in the 1975 NFL final recalled one very fond memory of the after match celebrations when writing in the Meath Yearbook many years later..
The late Mattie McDonnell of ’49 fame seeking out Mick Ryan the youngest player on the Meath team. Clapping him on the back he says ‘Young Ryan, Meath never won anything without a Skryne man and you played your part today.” Wise words from the youngest in ’49 to the youngest of ’75.
At one stage Meath were down 0-6 to 1-9 against the All Ireland champions but with Cassells and Ryan lording it in the middle of the park the Royals fought back to win 0-16 to 1-9. Meath had scored the last ten points without reply.
