The Kilcloon team that took on St. Marys in the 1981 Feis Cup. Front l-r: Val Cassidy, John Daly, John Dunne, Willie Murphy, Brendan Burke, Jimmy Burke, Oliver Larkin. Back l-r: Patsy Callanan, Barry Fitzgerald, Dessie Fitzgerald, Martin Callanan, JP Kelly, Mickey Flynn, John Collins, Sean Kelly

Last Saturday, January 9th, Val Cassidy was laid to rest in his native Kilcloon soil.

Val was a huge driving force behind the old Kilcloon team of the 1970's and 80's.

The team in Blue usually operated in the intermediate ranks during this spell

Val Cassidy was a mighty fielder of the ball. Brave and fearless he was from his usual midfield berth, a huge driving force behind the team who in later years amalgamated with parish neighbours Batterstown to form Blackhall Gaels.

We include a number of complementary messages taken from the popular RIP.ie site concerning Val. These include kind words from old team mates and football adversaries.

I am so sorry to hear of Vals death. I played football with val in the 1970s with kilcloon. He was as strong as an ox and always gave it 100% . He was protective of the team and an all round great team player. Val was a true gentleman always. A great sense of humour and a ready smile. I am genuinely very upset and feel a huge sense of loss at vals passing . I would like to express my condolences to his family and to say that val was a lovely man and a very kind person.
