Back Against the Wall - the ultimate test

The O'Neill's take on 'Back against the Wall' on Ireland's Fittest Family

One of the best pieces of viewing on our television screens since the Christmas break has to be Ireland’s Fittest Family.

Last night the season’s second show saw four more families pitted against each other for a place in the quarter finals.

Meath were represented by the O’Neill family from Wilkinstown and the Wolfe Tones footballing clan acquitted themselves very well without reaching the last eight.

It got us thinking here at hoganstand.com, just how tough is the new addition to the show ‘Back Against the Wall’ where contestants are asked to hold a sitting position at 90 degrees with their backs against the wall for as long as possible.

We have seen knee’s trembling after a minute and a half, we have seen immense struggles after five minutes and anyone that got beyond six minutes were doing extremely well.

If you tuned in last night you would have witnessed an unbelievable effort former Kildare footballer Liam Miley. Miley who lined out with the Lily’s in the late '80s stayed in position for over 12 minutes.

With Covid-19 restrictions and pitches closed nationwide perhaps this is a good exercise for all to try at home.

Let us know how you get on.
