August 12, 2019

Curraha's James McEntee

Curraha 0-12  Simonstown 0-07

Curraha secured their first ever group stage win in the senior championship by overcoming Simonstown in Skryne on Sunday afternoon.

Simonstown opened the scoring with a point after two minutes and could have been further ahead with the ball coming off the Curraha crossbar in the early stages.

Scores were hard to come by as twelve minutes had elapsed before a pointed free from Jack O'Connor put the sides level, a point from David Coyle  was followed by a similar Simonstown score to leave the sides level again midway through the half.

Curraha began to dominate proceedings but were guilty of some wayward shooting as the wides tally mounted, however a fabulous long range point from Neil Shortall was followed by a pointed free from Conor Moriarty to push the Ha two points clear, a converted O'Connor free in added time completed the first half scoring.

The game resumed with Curraha winning the ball from the throw in to set up James McEntee for a well taken point with Simonstown replying with a point from play.

Another pointed free from the ever accurate O'Connor was followed by two Moriarty points to open the gap to six points as the game entered the final quarter.

Simonstown responded with two pointed frees but again O'Connor sent over a free to interrupt the Navan sides momentum, two points from play from Simonstown narrowed the margin to three points with five minutes remaining but the Curraha defence stood firm to deny Simonstown .

James McEntee seemed to have run out of space as he took the ball in to the left hand corner but he managed to turn his marker to pop the ball over for the insurance point, a pointed free in injury time from O'Connor completed the scoring on what was a special day for the club.
