Ross Hanlon clears for Clann Na nGael during the 2015 MHC Division 2 final at Pairc Tailteann

The Clann na nGael GAA club are coming to terms with the loss of one of their young players.

Twenty one year old Ross Hanlon's body was recovered from the Danube Canal on Friday (January 26th) following a week long search after the DkIT student had travelled to Austria's capital Vienna with college friends for a weekend break.

The news sent shock waves throughout the community and further afield. Many of his friends who also line out for the club travelled to Vienna to help in the search for Ross.

A talented hurler and footballer, Ross was involved with county development squads in both hurling and football right up to under-15 level and was set for a bright future in gaelic games.

However, two cruciate knee ligament injuries were a setback to his GAA career, but in 2015, he was part of the Clann na nGael minor hurling side that defeated Navan O'Mahony's in the Division 2 final.

On that occasion, Ross lined out in goals and he showed what a versatile player he was by adapting comfortably to his new position. His last appearance for the club came in last year's under-21 hurling championship.

In tragedy, a unity can be formed and there is no doubt that the club will play their part in giving Ross the send off that he deserves.

Funeral arrangements to follow. "Ar dheis De go raibh a anam."
