Slane U15s Match Report.
Meath U15 League;
Date : 28/09/13
Slane 4-11 ; Kilbride 4-05
Slane entered into their second league match with a mind to improve on last weeks drawn game against Rathkenny where inaccuracy in front of the posts had cost them the winners points and we had to settle for a single point for the draw. Kilbride had beaten Duleek last week by a single point and were Slane's opposition 2 years back in the Summer League final and are a very respected team. The Slane lads did show them too much of this respect in the opening stages of this game and allowed Kilbride to race off into a 4 point lead before Matt Tully opened Slane's scoring with a free kick in front of goal. This boosted the home teams confidence and points from Francie Marry, Peter Martyn and Ralph McGuinness brought Slane right back into it and this was further enhanced when Ralph Mc Guinness was put through on goal and finished cooly to the net. This goal brought a casualness to the Slane play and poor passing and lack of concentration resulted in Kilbride breaking the Slane rearguard and crashing 3 well worked goals to the Slane net leaving Slane trailing by seven points at the break.
The break appeared to come at the right time and the boys in blue started the second half with renewed vigor. Jake Tallon, fresh on the field, opened the Slane account for this half and this was the start of the Slane fight back, indeed Kilbride only managed a single score in this second half which was a long ball that deceived the Slane keeper. Slane scored 3-07 in this second period which showed an improvement in their shooting abilities, but the real stars were the Slane backs who played superbly including Thomas Wogan, Aaron Lane and Ciaran Clarke on the full back line and Gavin Carolan, Andrew Everard and Luke Gibbs on the half back line. Other young forwards to show very well in this game included Killian Gough and Peter Martyn and Jake Tallon. The Slane lads showed great determination and teamwork in the second half which they can now go on and build on. Well done lads.
