June 11, 2013Mayo Sports Clinic held the first Western Sports & Exercise Medicine Conference in the Mayo Sports Clinic on May 11th 2013.
The Mayo Sports clinic welcomed renowned speakers to Ballina from the disciplines of Orthopaedic Surgery, Sports Medicine, Sports Physiotherapy and Sports Science to discuss the important topics in their field.
These figures included Mr Ray Moran (Medical Director & Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon in Sports Surgery Clinic, Santry) who gave an excellent presentation and workshop on "The Sporting Knee".
Other speakers included Mr. Paul O' Grady (Consultant in Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery at Mayo General Hospital), Dr Andy Franklyn-Millar (Sport & Exercise Medicine Consultant Physician), Mr Barry Solan (Strength & Conditioning Coach with Katie Taylor), Mr Enda King (Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist) and Colm Fuller (Specialist Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist with Munster Rugby).
Throughout the day there were numerous presentations and workshops in areas such as the sporting shoulder, movement screening in injury prevention, the management of groin pain, integrated performance training, taping and gait analysis. The conference was an enormous success with a large gathering of health professionals, sporting figures and medical companies in attendance. The Sports Clinic is under the directorship of Sports and Exercise Medicine Physician Dr Sean Moffatt and Chartered Physiotherapist & Certified Athletic Trainer Liam Moffatt.
