GERALDINES 3-11

Four goals inside the opening 38 minutes propelled St Marys to the semi-final of the Louth Senior Football Championship on Sunday afternoon.

The Ardee men turned in an excellent display to brush off the challenge of a disappointing Gers side and although the Haggardstown rallied in the final quarter with three goals, the result was beyond doubt at that stage.

The Marys made their intentions clear from the outset and after Kian Moran opened the scoring, they added a goal through the impressive Ciaran Keenan.

The Gers responded with points from McEneaney (2) and Conor Rafferty but no sooner did they get themselves back in the game than the Marys added a second goal through Daire McConnon to re-establish control. With Eimhin Keenan adding two points before the break, the Ardee men were in a very strong 2-7 to 0-4 lead at half time.

Although the Gers scored the opening two points of the second period, the Marys snuffed out any thoughts of a revival when they added goals in quick succession through Ciaran Keenan and Darren Clarek to stretch the lead to 4-10 to 0-6.

Michael Rogers scored the first goal for the Gers and Jim McEneaney followed up with a three-pointer from a penalty. With four minutes remaining they added a third through McEneaney but the Marys were never in any real danger as they ran out comfortable seven-point winners.
