Monaghan and Roscommon were both able to secure promotion to Division 1 of the Allianz Football League despite not winning in their respective outings this afternoon.
Monaghan slipped to a surprise defeat at the hands of Down in Clones, where it finished 0-24 to 2-17, but it wouldn’t be enough for the visitors to avoid relegation as Louth’s 1-19 to 0-17 win over Meath means that the Mourne men will be playing in Division 3 next season.
Down had built up a 0-14 to 1-3 lead within five minutes of the second-half before the home side clawed it back and eventually levelled through David Garland’s goal and a Stephen Mooney point with seven minutes remaining.

Conor Laverty’s men dug their deepest in that time and the points of Shay Millar and Pat Havern (free) in the dying stages earned them the win which ended up being in vain as a result of Louth’s victory in Inniskeen and the head-to-head rule, having lost out to the Wee County earlier in the campaign.
Ger Brennan’s men put in a superb display at Grattan Park to earn a five-point victory over Meath – a result which has also served to deny the Royals promotion after Monaghan and Roscommon dropped points today.
Kieran McArdle’s early goal set the tone for Louth as they pushed on towards a 1-13 to 0-5 lead at the break, with Meath clawing their deficit back to four points in the second-half before losing ace attacker Jordan Morris to a serious looking injury.
The injury caused the game to be delayed for some time and a Ryan Burns free would steady the ship for Louth after it resumed as they secured their Division 2 status for next season.
Meanwhile, Roscommon will be playing their league football in Division 1 in 2026 after drawing with Westmeath in Mullingar.
The 1-19 to 2-16 result marked the first point of the campaign for the already relegated Lake men, with the Rossies seemingly having done enough to earn their fifth win until back-to-back two-pointers from Eoghan McCabe and Kieran Martin in the closing stages snatched a draw for the hosts.
In Kingspan Breffni, promotion chasing Cavan fell to a 0-21 to 0-19 defeat at the hands of Cork.
The Rebels had been the much better side throughout the first-half, with the scores of Mark Cronin, Chris Og Jones and Brian Hurley helping them to a 0-11 to 0-5 lead at the interval.
Raymond Galligan’s men got back to within three with 15 minutes to go thanks to points via Cormac O’Reilly and Sean McEvoy, but the visitors pushed out their lead to six again through the frees of Cronin and a pair of two-pointers from Gearoid McKiernan down the home stretch would leave Cavan two points short in the end.
