Poc Fada winner Fionan Mackessy

Fionán Mackessy became the first Kerry man to win the M Donnelly All-Ireland Poc Fada senior men's title on the Annaverna Mountain in Co. Louth yesterday.

Taking part in the event for the first time, the Kerry hurling star completed the course in 48 pucks. Former winner and Limerick hurler Colin Ryan also got around the course in 48 pucks, but Mackessy prevailed thanks to the 62 metres he added on compared to Ryan's 16 metres.

Clare hurler Peter Duggan finished in third place, while reigning champion Killian Phelan from Kilkenny had to settle for fourth spot.

Meanwhile, Molly Lynch claimed a three-in-a-row of senior women's titles, just 24 hours after winning an All-Ireland senior camogie medal with Cork.

With 24 pucks to complete her course, she was three ahead of second-placed Susan Earner, the 2017 and 2018 winner and former Galway All-Ireland winning goalkeeper.
