GERALDINES 0-13
ST MARYS 0-10
Geraldines reached the Senior Championship semi-final for the first time since 1983 when they claimed a three-point win over St Marys at Dunleer on Saturday night.
Jim McEneaney proved to be the scoring inspiration for the Gers as he landed a total of 12 points on the night to keep alive his club’s hopes of getting their hands on the Joe Ward Cup.
It was the Marys who were first off the mark through Darren Clarke after just a minute but the proved to be the only time his side were in front. McEneaney and Dara Hamill helped the Gers move 0-3 to 0-1 ahead before Clarke replied for the Ardee men.
Although Ronan Carroll, Kian Moran and Mark Fay were on target for the Marys in the second quarter, the Haggardstown side continued to hold the upper hand and scores from McEneaney, Hamill and Ryan Trainor helped them lead by 0-8 to 0-5 at the break.
The Ardee men made a bright start to the second half as points from Niall Eccles and Ciaran Keenan saw the gap down to just one point. However, the Gers were in no mood to allow the opportunity slip from their grasp as McEneaney and Hamill got in on the scoring act again to keep their noses in front.
The Marys went in search of a goal late on to rescue the game but could only manage a point from Carroll, before Matt Corcoran’s late point secured the win for the Geraldines.
