Paddy Lynch struck for 0-10 as Cavan edged closer towards promotion from Division 3 of the Allianz Football League with a 0-21 to 0-14 victory against Offaly in Tullamore this afternoon.

The win marks four out of four for Mickey Graham’s men as they get set to welcome Down to Kingspan Breffni for an Ulster derby next Sunday (2pm).

Crosserlough sharpshooter Lynch, Ryan O’Neill, Jonathan McCabe, Brandon Boylan and Cian Madden were all on the scoresheet as Cavan carried in a 0-11 to 0-7 lead at the half and they’d run through the gears after the interval.

Lynch and Boylan raised white flags that helped to open up a seven-point gap and, despite Dylan Hyland and sub Bernard Allen’s efforts at the other end, it’d be the difference at the finish as Conor Madden and Lynch (2) rounded off the winning tally for the Blues.

In Pearse Park, Longford and Tipperary got off the mark in Division 3 at the fourth attempt after sharing the points in a 0-14 to 1-11 draw.

It was Oran Kenny’s point deep in injury-time that rescued a result for the hosts whom were five adrift heading towards the end of normal time.

The Midlanders had led at half-time by 0-9 to 0-5 but ran into a Tipp haymaker after the turnaround, as the Munster side netted the game’s only goal through Teddy Doyle three minutes into the restart.

Emmet Maloney and Donough Leahy then shot the Premier men in front and they looked home and hosed until Longford’s late comeback saw David McGivney (free), Dylan Farrell, Rian Brady (2) and Kenny sailing over scores in the closing stages that snatched a share of the points for Paddy Christie’s men.
