Armagh got their Allianz Hurling League Division 3A campaign off to a flyer this afternoon by handing Louth a 3-18 to 1-16 defeat in Darver.
Eoin McGuinness saw his early goal for the visitors cancelled out by Sean Kerrisk at the other end, but a brace of majors from Danny Magee before half-time helped the Orchard men on their way to an eight-point victory in the end.
In Clones, Monaghan edged a 2-14 to 1-13 win against neighbours Fermanagh while there was no separating Mayo and Roscommon at Hastings MacHale Park, where the opening round derby finished 0-17 to 0-17.
In Division 3B, Canice Maher made the difference for Cavan as they edged out Longford by 1-13 to 0-14 Glennon Brothers Pearse Park for an opening win.
Longford had led by 0-8 to 0-5 at the half but Maher’s goal from a free eight minutes into the restart sent the Breffni men on their way to victory.
The bottom division’s other clash saw Leitrim coming away from Páirc na hÉireann with a 1-21 to 3-6 win over Warwickshire.
