Longford GAA are confident that the main stand at Glennon Bros Pearse Park won't have to be demolished.

An engineer's report last year found that the stand had been damaged by structural subsidence and would have to be demolished. The cost of demolishing the stand and rebuilding it would be around €7 million, but hopes are growing that a fix rather than a demolition and rebuild solution can be found, which would save the county board millions of euro.

At Wednesday night's county board, it was announced that two contractors had completed exploratory works at the county ground ahead of a full investigation to be carried next month.

"Colm Murray, the development officer, outlined that there had been two tenders received to carry out a further investigation and one of these is a preferred tender at the moment," Longford secretary Peter Reilly told Shannonside Radio.

"The decision of the county committee will be to weigh up two reports, whether to demolish or repair"
