The Mulleady group
June 05, 2009
For over 40 years now, the Mulleady Group has been a major employer in and around the Longford area and has recently gained some more GAA connections. Company Director, Niall Mulleady, shares with Hogan Stand all the details about what the company has to offer and why they've recently become involved with the Longford County Board.
Ask anyone around Drumlish in county Longford and they'll tell you the Mulleady Group time their work to perfection, while also taking nothing for granted.
In December of last year, the company's construction branch, Mulleady Construction Co. Ltd, undertook a project on the headquarters of Longford GAA, Pearse Park, with the aim of having all work complete for the venue's hosting of the All-Ireland club senior football championship semi-final between Crossmaglen Rangers and Dromcollogher/Broadford.
Come February, naturally, the plan had come off without a hitch as the spectators from north and south gathered in the midlands stadium to safely watch as the Ulster champions' plan also came to good effect, tearing the Limerick opposition to shreds to book their place in another All-Ireland final.
So pleased were the Mulleady Group having been chosen to carry out the work at Pearse Park that they felt they needed to lend a helping hand back to the Longford County Board.
So, at that, the Mulleady heads agreed to sponsor the county's intermediate football championship campaign for the season ahead.
"After we'd completed the work at Pearse Park we felt it was only fair to give something back to the County Board," said the company's Director, Niall Mulleady.
"Basically we asked them what we could do and they said they were in need of a sponsor for the intermediate championship, so we took them up on that and have been happy to run with the sponsorship."
Incidentally, Mulleady's native club, Fr Manning Gaels, won the Longford IF league last year but he insists that has no bearing on the company's decision to back the board, and is merely coincidental.
So what is the Mulleady Group all about? Well, there are three answers to the question really.
Founded back in 1968 by Niall's father, Anthony Mulleady and his brother, the late Frank Mulleady, the group itself consists of three companies; Longford Precast & Prestressed Concrete Products Ltd, Mulleadys Waste Management and Mulleady Construction Co Ltd.
Longford Precast & Prestressed Concrete Products Ltd has been a major supplier of quality precast and prestressed concrete products in Ireland since 1972. The company can service all building requirements, from readymix concrete and mortar, to cut and bent steel and mesh, to concrete products such as lintels, cills, kerbs, and many more. They also specialise in off-standard precast products and supply various sizes of cattle slats and support beams for the cattle industry.
Longford Precast & Prestressed Concrete Products Ltd also proudly boasts the fact that they are the largest supplier of all types of pig and sow slats and support beams in the country.
The Mulleadys Waste Management is the largest employer of the three companies within the group, with 65 workers out of the 125 in total.
Also known as Mulleadys Limited, the company is operating from a nine-acre, fully EPA licensed site in Drumlish. The company's waste license at the facility allows them to accept up to 95,000 tonnes of waste per annum into the facility. Mulleadys are permitted waste collectors in the Midlands, Connaught and in Northern Eastern and Cork regions. They are also licensed to accept solid non-hazardous waste comprising of domestic, commercial, industrial and construction and demolition wastes.
At Mulleadys the company have their very own dry recyclable picking station where all material collected in the blue wheelie bins is sorted. These materials include newspapers, magazines, cardboard, plastic bottles, steel, aluminum cans and tetra pak. Each of these materials are baled separately at our facility and after sorting they are sent direct to mills for recycling.
The general public now has access to a modern civic amenity facility located on the Mulleadys site, where all types of general waste, dry recyclables, organic wastes, waste electronic and household hazardous wastes can be catered for.
The Drumlish outfit are well researched in many sectors in the area of dealing with waste and have incorporated the best available techniques with regards to waste management.
The Mulleadys waste management infrastructure is in keeping with current Government legislation and with the Midlands Waste Management Plan. They can cater for waste and recyclables from domestic, commercial and industrial sources utilising a modern materials recovery facility.
That leaves Mulleady Construction Co. Ltd, which has more than 35 years' experience of all kinds of building, construction and civil engineering work in its rich history. A skilled workforce and disciplined management team ensure that contracts are completed entirely to the company's clients' satisfaction and on time.
Experts in specialising in Local Authority construction, Mulleady's construction company provides fully serviced buildings and landscaped sites to a very high client specification, and apart of their success has been built on a reputation for quality from inception through to completion.
To date they have completed successful projects in the lines of: Health Centres, Schools, Factories, Office Blocks, Industrial Buildings and Agricultural Buildings.
As part of The Mulleady Group, this outfit has now become one of the major building contractors in the midlands, with a group turnover in excess of 15 million.
The company's own specialist divisions and associates can handle all stages of the construction project, while the precast concrete manufacturing unit and ready-mixed concrete and mortar plant ensure that only the highest quality concrete products are used in the construction. Mulleadys also have a builders providers as part of the Group, which allows them to source any materials efficiently.
For several years now the Mulleady Group have been kind sponsors to the Fr Manning Gaels GAA club in Longford and have recently come on board with their County Board to financially back this year's county intermediate championship, with hopes of continuing the sponsorship in the years ahead. They were also the proud sponsors of St. Vincent's minor team which won its first county minor championship in 2007.
