The Na Piarsaigh Feile na nGael panel
Our notes this week are dominated by our Under 14 Feile hurlers who travelled to Galway to represent Limerick in the annual Feile na nGael tournament. We began the competition with a game against our host club Killimor in what was a very one sided affair. So off to a flyer on a scoreline of 5-10 to 0-01,.next up were Sarsfields of Galway, again in Killimor and we won this one on a scoreline of 3-02 to 0-02. The final group game was against Ahan Gaels of Cork and we came out on top in a close fought affair on a scoreline of 1-05 1-02.
Into the quarter final and a meeting with a much fancied Kilmacud Crokes side. The improvement in standard was very much in evidence and we finally saw off the Dubs on a scoreline of 1-07 to 1-02
We marched into the semi final and a meeting with Craughwell of Galway. We led this game from start to finish and the Galway boys were dispatched with ease on a score of 3-12 to 0-03.
So still unbeaten we arrived in the final in Pearse Stadium to take on the might of O Loughlin Gaels of Kilkenny. We got off to a slow start and found ourselves 1-03 to 0-00 down inside 5 minutes. We gradually got ourselves into the game but unfortunately the huge effort of the previous games was beginning to show even though we only trailed at the break by 1-03 to 0-03.
As they say goals win games and it was the Kilkenny boys who got them in the second half to leave the final score of O Loughlin Gaels 3-06 to Na Piarsaigh 0-04.
Despite the overwhelming disappointment our lads were true ambassadors for Limerick hurling and were a credit to their families, club, and county all over the weekend. We extend the heartiest congratulations to all involved with a great bunch of lads. The club are extremely proud of each and every one of you.
