Match Updates

Many people have found the match updates WhatsApp group very useful to keep up to date with weekly fixtures, team line outs, scorers, and regular score updates during matches, by someone nominated by the club, for a lot of matches when they can't attend. Now that we're at the 'business end' of the season, if anyone, or anyone you know, would like to be added to the group, text a member of the club committee and they will gladly add you to the group.

County Minor A Football Championship Quarter Final:

St. Kieran’s 1.10 Ballylanders

The minor footballers made the journey to south Limerick this past Monday evening to take on Ballylanders where the prize on offer was a place in the County Semi-final. Morale was high following an excellent opening round victory over Ballysteen, and their good form was once again on show in the opening quarter racing into a 1.3 to 0.1 lead at the first water break. We held a comfortable lead at the interval, 1.6 to 0.2 with strong performances coming from Jamie Baynham, Sean Ryan and Cormac man putting us in the ascendency. As the second half progressed there was a noticeable difference in the south limerick side who upped the ante and fought to get back into the game. We were dealt a major blow in the 3rd quarter when we were reduced to fourteen men following the dismissal of half back Shane Fitzgerald for a second yellow card. We led by six points going into the final quarter as Ballylanders continued to apply the pressure. At the final whistle there was a sense of relief at picking up the victory and advancing to the county semi final where we join Ballysteen, Croom and Kilacolla Gaels. Well done to the players and management for the victory, the past number of weeks have been extremely hectic for many players within this group with a build up of games at different levels but it is evident that players are playing themselves into form with games. The county semi final will take place in the coming weeks.

Friday 4k

 

St Kieran's are promoting a 6-week walking programme, starting this Friday night September the 24th. It will be the same 4km walk that so many enjoyed pre Covid starting from the Astro turf car park at 7.30 pm sharp each Friday night. Everyone should have a high viz and a flash light. For those who would prefer a shorter walk are welcome along and can do a few circuits of the Astro turf itself. Looking forward to seeing everybody Friday evening.

County Junior A Hurling Championship Round 3:

St. Kieran’s 2.16

Garryspillane 2.10

The junior hurlers made it two wins from three games on Saturday evening with an excellent victory over Garryspillane in Kilmallock. Played in excellent underfoot conditions the game was extremely entertaining throughout with both teams playing an entertaining brand of hurling. We opened our account inside the opening two minutes thanks to a Sean Ryan point. Garryspillane quickly replied from a free before Johnny McCarthy and Mike Flynn increased our tally. Up front McCarthy and Sean Ryan were menacing early on and gave the Bouncers defence a lot of problems. At the first water break we led 6-3. The game took a major turn at the start of q2 when Cormac Mann found the back of the net with a ferocious effort to double our lead and from here we were in control of the game. At the back our defence looked extremely solid and provided great protection for Anthony Molyneaux who made his return to the team in goals. With the first half drawing to a conclusion and holding a seven point lead Garryspillane were given a major lifeline when they were awarded a penalty which former Limerick senior hurler coolly finished to the back of the net to leave the score 1.10 to 1.7 at the interval. The start of the second half saw the introduction of Donie Nolan and Darragh Treacy up front and both immediately made a massive impact on the game. Garryspillane got the opening score of the half to reduce their deficit to a goal before and Ian Mackessy free and a point from Treacy put us in a five point lead. Our second goal came towards the close of q 3 when full forward Johnny McCarthy used all his experience to find the back of the net and from here the game was ours. As the game moved into the final quarter our backs stood firm against the Garryspillane onslaught. Up front we continued to create scoreable chances with further points coming from Eoin McEnery, Johnny McCarthy and Darragh Treacy. At the final whistle we emerged victorious by a six-point margin which gives us a great opportunity to advance to the quarter finals in a few weeks. With two games remaining against local rivals Monagea and Ahane our destiny is in our own hands. Well-done to the players and management on Saturday’s victory. Next up in two weeks’ time is a local derby with Monagea in Knockaderry.

County Senior Football Championship.

The senior footballers make the journey to Croagh this Saturday afternoon to take on Na Piarsaigh in the relegation play-off. Both sides go into Saturday’s game off the back of two defeats in their two group games. We experienced disappointment with two single point defeats to Ballysteen and Galtee Gaels while Na Piarsaigh suffered losses to Oola and Adare in their two outings to date. Games between the two clubs are always hotly contested affairs and Saturday’s encounter will no doubt be another close encounter between two sides fighting for their lives at senior level. Saturday’s game throws in at 5pm. Entry is by ticket only. We will be distributing the link to access tickets over the coming days.
